While Mayfair is renowned for its grand and historic hotels, 1 Hotel Mayfair offers something refreshingly different. Inspired by the natural world, our design ethos is rooted in biophilic principles and an appreciation for reclaimed and locally sourced materials. The interiors celebrate imperfection and authenticity – featuring raw timber, natural stone, and tactile finishes in soft, earthy tones. Every detail has been considered to create an atmosphere that’s both grounding and restorative, blurring the line between indoor elegance and outdoor serenity.
1 Hotel Mayfair is known for its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly luxury. How does the hotel integrate these principles into every guest experience?
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, not just in design but in the full guest journey. From reclaimed furnishings and organic bedding to in-room filtered water and low-impact bath amenities, every detail is intentional. Our team brings these values to life through a curated calendar of programming designed to engage, educate, and inspire – ensuring that each stay not only feels good but does good.
What are some of the sustainable practices or innovations at 1 Hotel Mayfair that you think could inspire other hospitality businesses in London?
From the very beginning, the hotel has prioritized environmental responsibility, starting with the decision to refurbish and restore two existing buildings rather than constructing anew. This approach preserved over 80% of the original structures, preventing approximately 4,200 tonnes of carbon emissions associated with demolition and new development. Our partnership with Foodprint Group and the implementation of a TRUE Zero Waste program across all F&B outlets demonstrate how sustainability is embedded in our operational framework. Decisions such as eliminating single-use plastics, investing in advanced waste processing technologies, and repurposing surplus ingredients are not merely initiatives – they are strategic choices that align with our long-term vision of minimising environmental impact while delivering an elevated guest experience.
Furthermore, we prioritise investments that drive systemic change, such as the GC140 glass bottle crusher, which reduces glass waste volume by 80%, and the Dehydra Food Waste Dewatering system, which cuts food waste volume by up to 80% and weight by 50%. These decisions are made not only to improve operational efficiency but also to support a circular economy and reduce our carbon footprint.

Can you share any insider tips or hidden gems in the hotel that guests might not typically discover on their first visit?
Our team curates a diverse array of experiences designed to connect guests with nature, wellness, and community. From our weekly Royal Park Run Club to Sustainable Wine Tastings hosted by our sommeliers, and creative workshops like Dried Floral Card Making and Tarot & Sound Healing Sessions, there’s always something new to discover.
A recent highlight is our collaboration with E.L.V. Denim ‘Old Threads, New Tales’ an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and conscious making. And for those who enjoy good food paired with great music, Dovetale comes alive on Friday and Saturday evenings with a curated vinyl soundtrack that perfectly complements the dining experience.
Looking ahead, what exciting developments or new sustainability initiatives can guests expect to see at 1 Hotel Mayfair in the near future?
We’re constantly evolving – refining our practices and exploring new ways to deepen our commitment to sustainability. While we don’t want to give too much away just yet, but we have big plans for the summer season.
